On January 31st 2007, The Pegasus Memorial Museum team visited us to discover Wally Parr's London. My friend, Colin Evans, and I met, Marc, Martin, Mark, Beartrice and Valerie at Ladywell Station.
We started by showing them Lewisham Hospital where Wally was born and also died before walking to the house in Doggett Road where Wally spent the first few years of his life.
Next we stopped outside the Copperfield Public House, where I shared the life changing event that happen to my father outside it's doors ( see page 131 of my book).
After a swift pint inside we continued the journey along Catford Hill to see the house where my father spent his last years in England before moving to Normandy.
We stopped at the local butcher to see a poster and copies of my book in the window - on sale beside the sausages ! (Wally was a bit of a local hero).
We then proceeded to my house for lunch, served by my wife Diane. She made several varieties of sandwiches including one made of Ham and Jam!
We watched several clips of videos, including the 50th and 60th celebrations and the episode of 'Surprise Surprise' that featured Denis Edwards.
From there we continued to Home Park and looked at the place where we lived between 1950 and 1969.
We ended the walk by holding a small ceremony around the oak tree that has my father's ashes scattered around it.
From there we walked to the local station and we enjoyed and evening meal at the Union Jack Club.
Marc and his friends are now looking forward to selling my book at the museum and we are planning a book signing when I visit the museum in June.
